RE: Counting license plates

We spent last week in Amarillo TX right on I40. I knew the CG always had a lot of just over nighters. I didn't see that many come in so I ask if the traffic was down. They said very much so. They had some reservations for the 4th that just didn't show up. I'm afraid we could lose some good CGs. I ask somebody how full was the local lake, and they said it was packed. Guess everybody traveled the 16 miles from town, and that was as far as they went.

RE: Campground Rates

I've never heard of campgrounds that expensive. I thought 31.00 was a lot at Branson. Where we stayed last week they said they were going up due to electricity costs. I was hot, and imagine the a/c were pulling a lot of juice. I know the cost for the week was a little over 150.00. I'm sure there costs are also going up especially with less campers. This camp ground is on I40, and they said the nightly campers was way down.

RE: T/A or ST tires?

We've used the Maxxis LT tires on all our trailers but one. It happend to come with Michelin. My son in law has a very light Terry Dakota, and we put Maxxis St tires on it. They should be fine for no more then he pulls, and for the weight. I've never had a problem with the LT tires.

RE: Favorite hitches?

I loved my 20K Reese. Had to trade to a Super glide due to short bed, which of course you will not need. If you are going to be taking the hitch out, you may want to look at something different from the Reese, as it left two rails in the bed. I like the super glide as it leaves nothing in the bed. A lot of people love the B&W, I believe that is the brand. You might look into it. I bet you will get a lot of opinions. Buy quality, and I'm sure you will be happy. Pullright seems to be top quality.

RE: Leaving 5er connected to house power with no load

If my trailer stayed at home it would stay plugged. However: when we are not using it we put it in locked storage out of the weather. Then I disconnect the batteries to keep them from running down. I need a quick disconnect, but just haven't done that yet. I see not problem leaving it plugged in all the time. Should not hurt the batteries. Just like using a trickle charger.

RE: help on colorado campgrounds

Just some thoughts. We don't like to stay in Colorado Springs. We go up 24 to Woodland Park. They have several parks, with full hookups, if that is what you want. We always stay at Diamond. Very nice and a lot of trees, and about 17 miles from the Springs. However, if you like state parks, one of the best I've seen is Muller. I've never stayed there just due to full hook ups, but I really lkie it.

RE: Are there less RV's in the parks?

We're spending 1 week at amarillo ranch just off I40. They usually have a lot of over nighters. I ask one of the workers that has been here about 3 years, and he said it is way down.
Fun Valley up by South Fork Colorado was mentioned, and they said they are hearing it iw way down. We hope to get up there in 3-4 weeks if the farming is going OK.

RE: Overnight stay - disconnect?

We're staying at a RV park in Amarillo right off I40. Many of the units are here just for overnight. I notice a mixture of hooked and unhooked. i see no problem with staying hooked as long as it is level enough for you to sleep comfortable. I usually unhook the truck from the power cord, so I don't drag the truck battery down. Maybe that ia not necesary but that is what I would do.

RE: Has anyone delt with the Reno Tiffin Dealer?

The dealer in Amarillo Tx is way overstocked, and is a fair shooter. he would probably give you a great deal. i noticced today he had a lot of them.

If it is doing the job, you should feel the difference. When we went to the Mor Ride, we got rid of all the chucking and bouncing.

RE: terry quantum decals

We had a 2004 Quantum and our dealer was always able to get what ever we needed. Today we have teh 2007 Quantum, and also they have been able to get all the parts. They some klind of problems in the administration dept with fleetwood, and dropped the Terry line. However, they still get any parts I may need.

RE: Where is your plug installed?

I've had mine installed several different places. I prefer LH side and a little ways in front of the wheel well. I like it in front of the wheel well so if I need to get to it while hooked up, it is easily reached. I've always been able to lay the cord over the hitch frame work so it wil not get caught.

RE: Best brand of ST 235/80 R16 Tires

Michelin or Maxxis LT tires. Maxxis is much cheaper, and I've never had a problem. If I was rich, I would probably buy the Michelin, but I do like the Maxxis.

RV Parks in Stonewall Colorado

Just wondered if any body had camped in the Stonewall area lately. I kno there is a lot of dry camping, but we usually stay right in Stone Wall. One park is very crowded, but there is a couple more spots. Just wondered what was available now days. We haven't been that way in 2 to 3 years. some of the parks had electric problems back then. Thanks for any help.
By the way there are some very nice lakes to fish at in the area.

RE: RVing in North Central New Mexico

I'm not much for Red River. The one nice park is ran by a real Jerk. The other are Ok but not very scenic.
I would definitely recommend going on up into Colorado. It's a little further but well worth the extra mileage. If I was going to stay in the area, I'm like some of the others. I would stay in the Eagle Nest area.

RE: tire pressure

My trailer is close to capacity for the SRW F350. Thus I run about 80 in the rear, and 75 to 80 in the front. When not towing I let them down to a more comfortable ride. This seems to work very well.

RE: Who has gone from a tow vehicle/trailer to a class A

We traded an Alfa Gold for a MH. At first we thought it was great, but one trip, and we knew we made a terrible mistake. First the mileage was terrible comparaed to the diesel truck, and we got tired of not having the room inside and out that a 5th has. We went back to the dealer, and took our beating, and it was bad, and went to another 5th. another thing I did not like at all was the way the MH swayed in the wind, and on long curves. The suspension was way to soft. A 5th takes the wind and curves much better. I should know as I live in the Texas Panhandle where the wind seems to blow most of the time. If you like the MH then that is great. Just was not our cup of tea.

RE: Where are the Colorado visitors?

We try to get to Colorado about 3-4 weeks throughout the summer. My Retina tore, and cannot change elevation so guess our first week will be spent in Amarillo, at one of their nice RV parks, and only 120 miles from home. If the eye does OK we still want to make it to Fun Valley my South Fork. Thought we might stay a week, come home and check on the farm, and then go back for one more week. Thus is they we would allow us we would leave the trailer in a storage area, and only pull it once. With the 120 gallons of fuel we carry we could probably get back to Texas without buying any fuel. What's this about 6.00 fuel in Colorado. I can't believe that. I would think that would kill their RV business. It's cool in Colorado, but their are still a lot of things I would like to do in Texas, and Oklahoma.

RE: Towmax Tire Blow-out

I would definitely get those tires off. I agree Michelin is probably the best, but for no more miles then you pull your trailer I would put on Maxxis. I've ran Maxxis on all my 5ths, but one, with no problems. I had one trailer come out with Michelin.
Maxxis is a very good tire and cheaper. My son in law has them on his, and they are 15 inch. I run 16 inch which of course is the best way to go.
